Oogie Boogie Bash: The Family Guide to Disneyland's Halloween Party

Oogie Boogie Bash Party at California Adventureland. Entrance Gates

The Oogie Boogie Bash is one of my favorite events Disney does, period. It is the after-hours Halloween party at Disney California Adventure, and I have been going for years. Some years I bring my kids. Some years I go with my sisters and we trick-or-treat as grown adults until we have enough candy to make airport security wonder what is happening.

I am a huge Halloween person. I love the costumes, I love the candy, and I love trick or treating. Disney does this party so well — the decorations, the rare characters in costumes, the Halloween treats, the trick or treat trails, the villains, all of it.

That said, this party is not the best choice for every family. It is expensive. It is late. It can be hot. And little kids do not care that you paid almost $200 for a ticket if it's past their bedtime.

Here is my full family guide to Oogie Boogie Bash — the 2026 dates, tickets, costumes, treat trails, parade uncertainty, Villains Grove, stroller strategy, and how I would decide whether this is worth it for your family.

Find information about a regular park day at California Adventure Land here and Disneyland here.

Important note for 2026: The Frightfully Fun Parade — historically the centerpiece of this party — has not been officially confirmed for 2026 yet. Disney has removed all entertainment details from the official Oogie Boogie Bash page, and the backstage parade route at California Adventure is reportedly out of commission due to Coco attraction construction behind Pixar Pier. Disney is expected to announce the 2026 entertainment lineup before tickets go on sale in mid-June. I have a full section on the parade below assuming it does run, but watch for an official announcement before booking your tickets.

Is the Oogie Boogie Bash Worth It for Families?

Candy from the Oogie Boogie Bash

Short answer: it depends on your kids' ages and how late they will stay up.

It is worth it if you love Halloween, you love candy, your group is OK staying out late, and you go in with realistic expectations. The party is one of the most fun things Disney puts on.

However, if a tired kid falling asleep or going home early is going to feel like you wasted the ticket price, I would skip the party and instead just visit Disneyland and California Adventure on regular tickets. The Halloween decorations, the Cars Land overlay, the regular characters in Halloween costumes, the seasonal treats — most of the Halloween vibe is in the parks all season long. The party-specific stuff (special villain costumes, treat trails, Villains Grove) is fun, but it is not worth high ticket price if your kids are going to be asleep by 8.

My take: this party hits a sweet spot for kids around 7 and up who can handle the late night. For little kids, the LEGOLAND Halloween party (more on that below) is often a better fit. This party works well for adult groups or groups that can split up (one adult taking tired kids back to the hotel).

Mistakes to Avoid Before You Book

A few quick warnings:

•      Do not buy from resellers. Oogie Boogie Bash tickets are non-transferable and linked to the purchaser's Disneyland account. Buying through Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or anywhere other than Disney may result in denied entry at the gate.

•      Do not try to do a full Disneyland day on the same day as your party. If you have multiple days at the resort, save the party for a day when you have a relaxed morning at the hotel pool or Downtown Disney. Going hard at Disneyland from 8 AM and then trying to do the party until 11 PM is exhausting. Plus, buying an extra regular ticket for the party day is expensive.

•      Do not assume you can walk up and get tickets. Oogie Boogie Bash sells out every year. Many dates sell out within hours of going on sale. If you want to go, you need to be on the page at 8:45 AM PT on your eligible sale day with a credit card linked to your Disney account.

2026 Dates, Pricing, and How to Get Tickets

Oogie Boogie Bash runs on 30+ select nights from mid-August through October 31, 2026 — mainly Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday nights. Tickets are $134 to $199 per person depending on the date, with weekend and October dates costing more.

Tickets typically go on sale in mid-to-late June. The 2026 sale schedule:

•      June 16, 2026 (9 AM PT): Inspire Magic Key holder presale (limited tickets)

•      Following weeks: rolling Magic Key tier presales (Believe, Enchant, Imagine)

•      Late June: General public on sale

Tips for the ticket sale day

This event sells out FAST, especially the October dates. A few things to know before sale day:

•      Be logged into your Disneyland account and have a credit card linked BEFORE 8:45 AM PT on sale day

•      Navigate to the Oogie Boogie Bash page on Disneyland.com a few minutes before 9 AM PT. Disney puts everyone in a randomized virtual queue

•      Save your queue ID — if your device crashes or you need to switch devices, you can re-enter the queue in the same spot using that ID

•      When prompted, add your email address to get notified when it is your turn (this lets you leave the screen)

•      Once it is your turn, you have about 10 minutes to complete the transaction

•      Maximum 8 tickets per Disney account. Different dates must be purchased in separate transactions

•      Have a date AND a backup date in mind before you start. Sunday and Thursday nights sell out fastest

My recommendation on dates

Go in August or September if you can. October dates are more expensive, and the parks are so much busier. Party tickets generally sell out for every date, but late August and September are substantially less crowded if you plan to spend a day or two at the parks while there for the Oogie Boogie Bash.

Where to Enter the Park for the Party

At the front of the line. People will start lining up around 2:00. Typically everyone will just get in one line. Almost all of the turnstiles on the right side that are closed at 2:00 will open right around 3:00 so don’t worry about joining one or two of the initial single lines. Just head right up to the gate and start a new line.

There are three different ways into California Adventure on a party day, and choosing the right one can save you 20-30 minutes in line.

Option 1: The dedicated party gates (main entrance, right side)

On party days, Disney reserves a few gates on the RIGHT side of the main Disneyland Esplanade entrance specifically for Oogie Boogie Bash guests. This is the entrance most people use. Look for cast members directing party guests to the right side of the entry plaza.

If you are using this entrance, arrive around 2:00-2:15 PM to be among the first in when gates open at 3:00 PM. Just line up right at the gate. Often there is one long line that has started, if so, just head up to another turnstile and start a new line. They will open most of the closed turnstiles for the party entrance at 3:00. Note that if you arrive around 3:00, the lines are very long, however, they move pretty quickly.

Option 2: The Grand Californian Hotel entrance

Disney's Grand Californian Hotel has its own exclusive entrance into California Adventure. You do NOT need to be a Grand Californian hotel guest to use it.

You still go through security at this entrance, but it is less crowded than the main entrance, especially in the mid-afternoon. Cast members are stationed there to scan party tickets. If you are staying anywhere in the Disneyland Resort area, this is often the fastest way in.

To find it: the entrance is inside the Grand Californian Hotel lobby. Walk through the hotel, follow the signs to the park entrance, and go through security there. Comes out near Grizzly Peak.

Option 3: Magic Key holders — use the regular park entrance

If you have a Magic Key, here is a faster strategy: get a regular park reservation for that day, enter through the regular (non-party) entrance with the normal park crowd BEFORE 3:00, and then pick up your party wristband at the secondary check-in station once you are inside.

The secondary check-in is on the main walkway across from the Vineyard (Blue Sky Cellar area) near the Cars Land entrance. Cast members will scan your party ticket and give you your wristband, map, and trick-or-treat bag. This whole process takes about a few minutes and you skip the party-entrance line entirely.

Arrival Strategy: Two Ways to Do It

Your party ticket lets you into California Adventure starting at 3:00 PM, three hours before the party officially starts at 6:00 PM. You can use this in two different ways.

Strategy A: Get in at 3:00 PM (the traditional approach)

I generally recommend this approach. Get to the security and entry gates by 2:00 PM. They start letting party guests in at 3:00 PM. Use the time before the party to:

•      Pick up your wristband, map, and trick or treat bag (if you are already in the park a secondary check-in location across from Blue Sky Cellar near the Carsland entrance is faster than the front check-in)

•      Plan your route — study the map, identify your top 3 must-see characters and your top treat trails

•      Hit a couple of rides while the regular park crowd is still in. Single rider lines on Soarin', Spider-Man, or Cars work great if your kids are old enough

•      Catch regular park characters (they are out before the party starts). You can get great photos with characters in costumes and skip doing that during the party. If there are characters you want to see during the party, line up around 5:30 for them so you can be close to the front of the line right when the party starts.

•      Eat an early dinner around 5:00 PM so you are not eating during prime party time

My take on Strategy A: it gives you the most time at the party for your money. The downside is that California Adventure in August - October is blazing hot, the lines from 3-6 PM are long and you don't have Lightning Lane, and by the time the party starts at 6, your kids may already be tired and overheated.

Strategy B: Rest at the hotel, arrive around 5:00 PM (refreshed approach)

Skip the 3 PM entry. Take a long afternoon break at the hotel, let everyone nap or just cool off, and head over around 4:30. Get in line by 5:00 PM. You should be in the park by 5:30 or 6:00.

Pros: kids are not exhausted before the party even starts. You skip the worst of the heat. You skip the long 3-6 PM ride lines (when the party officially starts at 6 PM, all non-party guests are ushered out and lines drop dramatically).

Cons: you miss the early-entry head start on character lines and treat trail lines. Popular characters (Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus, Kingdom Hearts Mickey, Donald, and Goofy) often have people lining up at 5:15 PM for the 6 PM start, so if those characters are critical to your party plan, Strategy B will cost you.

My take on Strategy B: ideal for families with younger kids who need a real break, for anyone going on an early-season hot day, or for groups who care more about the trick or treat trails and the parade than chasing the rare character meets.

My recommendation

If your group includes kids under 8, Strategy B. The rest at the hotel is worth more than 2-3 extra hours of mix-in time. If your group is mostly adults or older kids who can power through, Strategy A. If you are trying to meet Sanderson Sisters or the Kingdom Hearts characters and that is critical to your night, Strategy A — you need to be in line by 5:30.

Costume Rules: What You Need to Know

Oogie Boogie Bash is one of the few times adults can wear costumes at a Disneyland. Both kids and adults can dress up. There are specific rules and they are enforced at the gate.

Rules for adults (14 and up)

•      Costumes are allowed during the party — this is the exception to Disney's normal rules

•      NO masks. Masks are not allowed for anyone 14 or older, ever, except for medical reasons. This is why you see adults doing elaborate face paint and makeup instead of masks for villain costumes

•      If you dress as a Disney character, you cannot pose for photos with other guests or sign autographs (this is to avoid being mistaken for a cast member)

•      Costumes cannot drag on the ground — no super long dresses or capes

•      No sharp or pointed objects, no realistic-looking weapons. Lightsabers and toy swords are allowed

•      Costumes must be family-friendly — nothing offensive, violent, or revealing

•      Layered or full-body costumes may be subject to additional screening at security

Rules for kids (13 and under)

•      Kids can wear costumes year-round at Disneyland — they do not need a party ticket to dress up

•      Kids CAN wear masks, but eyes must be visible and the mask cannot cover the entire face

•      All the same costume rules apply (no dragging, no sharp objects, no realistic weapons, etc.)

My advice on costumes

My family does not go all-out. The kids and I usually wear a Halloween Disney t-shirt and that is about it. Costumes are hard to travel with, and California Adventure at this time of year is hot. I have seen so many little kids in heavy costumes with very pink cheeks looking like they are about to faint.

If you want your kids in a costume, pack a Halloween t-shirt for the 3-6 PM mix-in and change them into the costume around 7 or 8 PM when the sun goes down. They will be way more comfortable.

If you ARE a costume person, this is the event for you. People go all out, the group costumes are creative and fun, and adult Disney fans show up in some of the most spectacular costumes you will ever see. Worth a trip just for the people-watching.

Once the Party Starts

At 6 PM, the party officially starts. Cast members start checking wristbands. All non-party guests get ushered out of California Adventure. Ride lines drop dramatically. And everyone with a party ticket has the same instinct: run to the trick or treat trails.

Resist that instinct.

The trick or treat trails are very busy from 6-8 PM. They drop dramatically after 8 PM. The smart move is to use the first two hours of the party for character meet and greets and rides.

First two hours (6-8 PM)

•      Rides drop to short waits soon after the party starts — hit Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Soarin', Toy Story Mania. There is NO Lightning Lane during the party

•      Top character meets fill up fast. If Sanderson Sisters, Kingdom Hearts Mickey/Donald/Goofy, or other rare villains are on your must-see list, line up for in this window. Even better if you can line up for them around 5:30

•      Skip the lines for Mickey and Minnie in costume — they are over an hour long all night and you can see them in fun costumes during the day in both parks. Get a picture with them in a regular Halloween costume during the 3-6 window. If it is a top priority to get a picture with them in the party special party costume, get in line around 5. You can eat grab dinner and eat it while you wait

•      Identify 3 must-see characters max. Anything more is a bonus

Middle of the party (8-10 PM)

•      Trick or treat trails open up — lines drop completely

•      Villains Grove opens after dark (around 8 PM) — better experience once it is fully dark

•      First parade at 7:45 PM if it runs in 2026 — see parade section below for viewing strategy

•      Catch Mickey's Trick and Treat Show at the Disney Junior theater in Hollywood Land if your kids are into it (skip the first show, it is crazy busy)

Last hour (10-11 PM)

•      No line at trick or treat trails — you can do them multiple times if you want

•      Second parade at 10:00 PM — much less crowded than the first

•      Villains Grove is empty late at night

•      Buena Vista Street treat trail opens at 9 PM — just walk up to cast members lining the street with candy, no line at all

•      As you exit at the end of the night, the treat trails on the main exit route hand out full-size candy bars — a great finish

The Trick or Treat Trails: Strategy and What to Expect

Oogie Boogie treat trail-always a favorite

There are around 7-8 immersive trick or treat trails throughout California Adventure, each with a Disney villain as the host. As you walk through, the villain interacts with you from a stage. There are 5-7 candy stations along each trail where cast members drop candy into your bag. Kids and adults are welcome to trick or treat.

What kind of candy

Here is an idea of the candy variety.

The candy mix is great— chocolate, fruity, full variety. Most trails have one or two stations with a non-candy option like craisins, chips, goldfish crackers, apple, carrot, or grape packs. These are very welcome when you are starting to get candied out. You can ask for an allergy friendly treat and I have even seen stickers in the lines. If you have special dietary needs, just ask a cast member about options.

As you exit the park at the end of the party, the treat lines along the exit route hand out full-size candy bars.

Strategy for hitting the trails

•      Wait until 7 or 8 PM to hit most of the trails. Lines from 6-8 PM are longer. By 8 they are pretty much walk right through

•      Hit trails in geographic order — do not crisscross the park. Pick one area (Cars Land, Hollywood Land, Avengers Campus, Paradise Gardens), do all the trails there, move to the next area

•      If you see a long line, skip it and circle back later

•      Go through trails right before or during the parade — everyone is at the parade and lines are nearly empty. My favorite strategy: 15-20 min before the parade I sit down to save a spot and send my kids and one adult to the trails around the Animation Academy. They run through all the trails there several times in a very quickly

•      The Buena Vista Street candy carts open at 9 PM. No queue. Just walk up to cast members lined up with carts of candy. Easy haul

•      You can go through the same trail multiple times if you want. Cast members do not really care, especially later in the night

Villians in the treat trails rotate each year.

Bag strategy

The little bag Disney gives you with your ticket is small. If you plan to do any real trick or treating, bring a bigger bag from home. We bring a couple of larger bags and leave them in the stroller. The kids dump their full bag into the big bag in the stroller so they are not hauling around a heavy load.

Lockers near the park entrance are an option if you do not have a stroller. We always come home with a full carry-on of candy. My spouse does point out to me I could just buy candy at the store. I tell him buying candy at Costco vs trick or treating at Disneyland is not even comparable.

The Frightfully Fun Parade

The Headless Horseman leads the Frightfully Fun Halloween Parade.

2026 status: Construction at California Adventure (Coco attraction work behind Pixar Pier) has made the backstage parade route unusable. Disney has removed all entertainment details from the official Oogie Boogie Bash page and has not yet confirmed whether the parade will run in 2026 or be replaced with alternative entertainment. The information below assumes the parade runs as it has in past years. Watch for an official Disney announcement before booking your party night.

Assuming the parade runs in 2026, here is what to know:

The Frightfully Fun Parade is the centerpiece of the party. The Headless Horseman from Sleepy Hollow leads the parade, riding through the streets 10-15 minutes before the parade starts as a pre-show. Then comes a procession packed with Disney villains, Jack Skellington, Oogie Boogie, hitchhiking ghosts, the Headless Horseman, and Mickey and Minnie in Halloween costumes. The parade lasts about 15 minutes and runs twice each party night.

Parade times

•      First showing: 7:45 PM

•      Second showing: 10:00 PM

•      Headless Horseman pre-show: 10-15 minutes before each parade

Parade route

Both parades go in the same direction: starts near Silly Symphony Swings in Paradise Gardens, heads toward Little Mermaid, passes Carthay Circle, turns down Hollywood Boulevard, turns at Hyperion Theatre, and ends near Guardians of the Galaxy. It takes about 20 minutes for the parade to travel from start to end so if you are watching at the end it will take a while to get down to you.

Where to watch

I don’t bother saving spots hours in advance because I don’t want to waste my precious party time. I just grab a spot about 20 min before the parade is set to start.

•      Best spots: in front of Little Mermaid – Ariel's Undersea Adventure (well-lit, less crowded), Paradise Garden Park area, or near the start of the route between Pixar Place and Paradise Gardens. Or at the end of the parade near Guardians of the Galaxy and the Animation Academy

•      Watch the FIRST parade near the START of the route — frees you up sooner for trick or treat trails afterward while everyone else is still watching

•      Watch the SECOND parade near the END (Hyperion Theatre area) — second parade is much less crowded, easier to find a spot anywhere

•      Arrive 20-30 minutes before showtime, not an hour. You will be fine

•      If you are with a group, one or two people can save spots while others do trick or treat trails — lines drop to almost nothing during the parade window

My strategy

If I have kids, we watch the FIRST parade — they will not last for the 10 PM showing. We grab a spot 20 minutes ahead near Paradise Gardens or by the Little Mermaid. While one adult saves the spot, the rest of us do a treat trail or two right nearby. They are walk-on during the parade window.

If I am with adults only, we skip the first parade entirely and use that hour to hit treat trails and rides with no lines. Then we watch the SECOND parade at 10 PM near Hyperion Theatre, where there is plenty of room and no need to save a spot in advance.

So many fun villians at the parade.

Dining packages — my take

Disney offers an Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party at $89 per person that gives you reserved viewing for the parade in front of Little Mermaid. The party is already $134-199 per person — paying another $89 each for desserts and a guaranteed spot is not worth it. I’m already sugared out from eating candy and other special Halloween desserts all day. You can get a perfectly good spot 20 minutes ahead for free.

Villains Grove

Villians Grove across from Grizzly Rapids. Early in the night the lines are long. Later, there are no lines and you can walk right through.

This is one of my favorite parts of the party. Villains Grove is a walk-through experience at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail in the Grizzly Peak area. The forest is transformed with lights, projections, music, mist, and sounds. Different sections are themed to different villains — Frollo's Sanctuary with its candle-lit cathedral feel, Maleficent's Will with a waterfall of magical colors, and others.

There are no characters in Villains Grove. It is purely environmental — atmospheric, beautiful, a little eerie but not scary. My sister, who I go to the party with every year, is never interested. I make her walk through with me anyway. I think it is spectacular.

Villains Grove strategy

•      Hours: 8 PM to 11 PM. Best when it is fully dark — the experience is built around the darkness

•      Line can be 30+ minutes early in the night, drops to walk-on later

•      Trick: go DURING one of the parades. Line is nearly empty because everyone is watching the parade. Watch the parade at the start of the route and then run right over

•      Or hit it at the end of the night — last hour of the party there generally no lines

•      Wheelchair-accessible alternate path available

Character Meet and Greets

This is where many adult Disney fans focus their entire night. The Oogie Boogie Bash brings out rare characters in special costumes you cannot meet any other time of year — Minnie, Daisy, and Clarabelle Cow as the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus, Kingdom Hearts Mickey/Donald/Goofy, Megara with Pain and Panic, and a rotating cast of villains.

Character picture lines are long but you can take pics with the characters in the treat lines like this without waiting in lines.

Character strategy

•      The lines for Mickey and Minnie are 60+ minutes all night. If those are not on your must-see list, skip them — you can see Mickey and Minnie any other day of the year

•      Sanderson Sisters and Kingdom Hearts characters have the longest lines. If those are critical, line up by 5:15-5:30 PM (during mix-in) before the 6 PM party start

•      Identify 3 must-see characters maximum. More than that and you are just standing in lines all night

•      Villains in the treat trails (Hades, Madame Mim, Yokai, Doc Doofenshmirtz, Ernesto de la Cruz, etc.) interact with you as you walk by — quick photo ops, no waiting

•      Cars Land characters have short lines at the end of the night

•      Use your party PhotoPass — unlimited digital downloads are included with your ticket. Scan your wristband at every character interaction

Rides During the Party

My sister's family does the party for one reason: short ride lines. They do not care about the candy or the characters. They get to California Adventure, hit Guardians of the Galaxy six times in a row, and call it a perfect night.

Once the party officially starts at 6 PM and the regular park guests are ushered out, lines drop dramatically. Most rides have very reasonable waits. There is no Lightning Lane during the party — the limited capacity is the whole strategy.

•      Best rides to hit at 6 PM when the party starts: (you might have to wait a bit for the last of the regular party guests to get through some of these) Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Soarin', Toy Story Mania, Cars

•      Single Rider lines work great during mix-in (3-6 PM) for older kids and adults

•      If your group includes ride people who do not care about candy or costumes, this is the BEST night of the year to be in California Adventure

Stroller, Bag, and Gear Tips

•      Bring a stroller if you have kids. Even if your kids do not normally use one, the party is long and they will probably crash. The stroller also stores all your candy

•      Put an AirTag on your stroller or twinkle lights — strollers get moved during the parade and they are hard to find in the dark. I once spent 20 minutes looking for mine

•      ALWAYS park your stroller in marked stroller parking. Cast members will move strollers parked anywhere else, especially along the parade route

•      Pack a bigger trick or treat bag (the Disney one is small). Cloth tote works well

•      Bring water bottles, sunscreen for the early hours, and a light sweatshirt for after dark — the temperature drops at night

•      If your kids are wearing a costume, change them into it when the sun goes down if it is too hot early

•      Lockers are available near the park entrance if you do not want to lug everything around

What If My Kids Are Little?

This is the question I get most often. Honestly, the party is hard with young kids. My toddler fell asleep at 6:30 PM the first time I took him — completely missed the party — and I felt like I had wasted the ticket price. Now, I love the party so much I accept that I am going for myself and I don’t care if my kids only last an hour.

Things to consider for kids under 7:

•      The party runs 6-11 PM. Many young kids are toast by 8 or 9, especially with a time change from another time zone

•      The Aug-Oct heat is hard on little kids in costumes

•      Most of the Halloween magic at Disneyland and California Adventure happens during regular park days from mid-August through October 31. Decorations, Cars Land overlay, characters in Halloween costumes during normal hours, seasonal treats — none of that requires a party ticket

•      The party-exclusive stuff (rare character costumes, treat trails, Villains Grove) is fun but expensive. Young kids may not really care about these things

Regular park days from mid-August through October are full of fun! Special decor, treats like this shake from Schmoozies, and more can be experienced without going to the Oogie Boogie Bash.

My recommendation for families with only young toddlers

Skip the party. Spend your money on a regular Halloween-season day at the parks. Read my guide for Disneyland with toddlers here. You will get most of the Halloween experience for a fraction of the cost. Take photos of your kids with the regular characters in their Halloween costumes during the day, ride the Halloween overlays in Cars Land, eat the seasonal treats. The vibe is everywhere — you do not need the party ticket to access it.

LEGOLAND Halloween — a better fit for little kids

If you really want to do a Halloween party with kids 6 and under, the LEGOLAND California Halloween party is a much better fit. Trick or treating starts at 3 PM (not 6 PM), the party wraps up by 8 or 9 PM, and the timing is built for younger kids. I have a full review of the LEGOLAND Halloween party coming soon.

[INTERNAL LINK: LEGOLAND Halloween party review — coming soon]

If you are taking a mix of older and younger kids

My family's strategy: I bring one extra adult — my parents, my spouse, — who is happy to take the kids back to the hotel around 9:00-9:30 PM. The grandparent gets to leave with the kids and go to bed too. And I get to stay and do the second parade, the late-night trick or treat trails, and Villains Grove without anyone melting down.

This is the best version of doing the party with a family. Everyone wins.

Going Without Kids

This is one of my favorite ways to do the party. I go every year with my sister, sometimes without kids, and we just have a girls' night out. Adults can trick or treat. It is totally embraced and you will see plenty of adult-only groups.

With adults you can:

•      Stay until 11 PM and catch the second parade (way less crowded)

•      Do every trick or treat trail multiple times

•      Hit rides hard during the first hour while everyone else is in line for characters

•      Enjoy Villains Grove fully (late at night, no line)

•      Wear an elaborate costume because you are not also wrangling a kid in one

If you love Halloween, do this at least once. It is just so much fun.

Final Thoughts

The Oogie Boogie Bash is one of my favorite Disney events. The Halloween energy, the rare characters, the immersive treat trails, the candy haul, Villains Grove — it is genuinely special.

It is also expensive, late, and most fun if you go in with the right expectations. With kids 7 and up, it is a wonderful family memory. With kids under 7, it is a tough fit and you can capture most of the Halloween magic for less money during regular park hours. As an adult-only night, it is one of the most fun things you can do at Disneyland.

Watch for Disney's 2026 entertainment announcement before tickets go on sale in June. If the parade returns, the party stays a must-do for me. If it does not, the party will still be fun, but I would want to know what is replacing it before committing $200 per ticket.

Who Should Go and Who Should Skip

Best for: Halloween lovers, families with kids around 7 and up, adult groups, costume and candy enthusiasts, anyone who wants short ride lines

Skip if: Your kids are under 7 and bedtime is a hard 8 or 9 PM. You will get more from regular Halloween Time hours at the parks

Ticket cost: $134-$199 per person, depending on date

My verdict: Worth it for the adults and older kids

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do Oogie Boogie Bash tickets cost in 2026?

Tickets are $134 to $199 per person depending on the date. October and weekend dates cost more than September weeknight dates. Prices are up $5-$10 from 2025.

When do 2026 tickets go on sale?

Inspire Magic Key holder presale begins June 16, 2026 at 9 AM PT. Other Magic Key tiers follow over the next two weeks. General public sale is in late June. Tickets sell out fast — be on the page at 8:45 AM PT on your sale day.

Where should I enter the park for the party?

Three options. The main party entrance is on the right side of the Disneyland Esplanade gates — Disney reserves a few gates there specifically for party guests. The Grand Californian Hotel has its own entrance (open to anyone, you don't need to be a hotel guest) and is far less crowded mid-afternoon. Magic Key holders can use the regular non-party entrance with a park reservation, then pick up their wristband at the secondary check-in across from Blue Sky Cellar near Cars Land — fastest option.

What time does the party start and end?

The official party runs from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Party ticket holders can enter California Adventure starting at 3:00 PM during the mix-in window.

Will the Frightfully Fun Parade happen in 2026?

As of late spring 2026, this is not confirmed. The backstage parade route at California Adventure is reportedly unusable due to Coco attraction construction behind Pixar Pier. Disney has removed all entertainment details from the official party page. Watch for an official announcement before tickets go on sale in mid-June.

Can adults wear costumes to Oogie Boogie Bash?

Yes. Oogie Boogie Bash is one of the few times adults 14 and older can wear full costumes at a Disney park. There are rules — no masks (except for medical reasons), no costumes that drag on the ground, no sharp or pointed objects, no realistic-looking weapons. Adults doing elaborate costumes use face paint and makeup instead of masks.

Can kids wear masks with their costumes?

Kids 13 and under can wear masks, but eyes must be visible and the mask cannot cover the entire face. Adults 14 and up cannot wear masks at all (except for medical reasons).

Is Oogie Boogie Bash good for young kids?

Honestly, it is tough. The party runs 6-11 PM, which is too late for young kids. The Halloween magic at Disneyland is everywhere during regular Halloween Time (mid-August through October 31) — decorations, characters in Halloween costumes, seasonal treats — and you do not need a party ticket to experience most of it. For families with young kids, the LEGOLAND California Halloween party (starts at 3 PM, wraps up by 8-9 PM) is usually a better fit.

How does the trick or treating work?

There are 7-8 themed treat trails throughout California Adventure, each hosted by a Disney villain. Each trail has 5-7 candy stations where cast members drop candy into your bag. You can go through trails multiple times. As you exit the park at the end of the night, the trails along the exit route hand out full-size candy bars.

Is there a Frightfully Fun Parade dining package?

Disney offers a Dessert Party at $89 per person with reserved parade viewing in front of Little Mermaid, but it is widely considered not worth the extra cost — you can get a great free spot 20 minutes before the parade starts.

What is Villains Grove?

An immersive walk-through experience in the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail (Grizzly Peak area). The forest is transformed with lights, music, and projections themed to different Disney villains. No live characters — it is environmental. Opens at 8 PM (once it is dark) and runs until 11 PM. Best experienced fully after 8:30 PM when it is completely dark.

Is PhotoPass included?

Yes. Unlimited Disney PhotoPass digital downloads are included with every party ticket. Scan your wristband at every character interaction to claim your photos.

Can I buy Oogie Boogie Bash tickets from a reseller?

No. Tickets are non-transferable and linked to the purchaser's Disneyland account. Reseller tickets are regularly denied at the gate, and you lose your money. Only buy through Disneyland.com.
